Description

My OC for the ancient Ligures population.
Created for fun using history and local stereotypes, no offense meant. If something is incorrect please warn me.
For more Italian OCs go here and for strips involving them go here.

Notes:

Though I called him Ligustica he represents the ancient Ligures population and not the territory over which they lived or a their political government.
Ligures anciently lived partly on current Liguria, partly on south France. Later on the Romans called Liguria the land in which they lived that belonged to the Italian territory. I've used as a name for him Ligustica (which means 'of the Ligures') instead than Liguria in order not to create confusion with present time Liguria and because that name was a name he got much afterward, when he was absorbed by Roma.
The other name, Ambronum, comes from the fact in their past they apparently were called Ambrones (Ambronum means 'of the Ambrones') although they weren't related to the Germanic Ambrones.
It's up to debate if the Ligures belonged to the Gaulish tribes or not. According to the Ligures they didn't, although they shared many things in common but that's maybe because they interacted a lot.

About his look, most of the Ligures had long hair and bear. As I based my draw on an illustration on how Ligures looked I didn't draw him a cape (which I discovered they were used to wear). Also by mistake I gave him shoes, when he was used to go fighting barefoot.

The Ligures didn't have a flag. I used it as 'flag' the sententia minuciorum, which was the transcript of a Roman judgment that assigned the victory to the Ligures from Genua, a thing that was used by Genua to claim it over rules among the other Ligurian cities.
It's unknown if the Ligures had a capital/main city/whatever as they were collected in many tribes that lived in small villages. Genua however was acknowledged as their 'trading capital', so I listed it as capital (with a question mark nearby to signal the thing is up to debate).

Ligustica's human name is Cicno which, according to Hesiodus, was the name of one of the Ligures' kings, a friend of Phaethon, son of Apollo. Cicno knew how to play beautiful music and had a lovely voice. When Phaethon died Cicno, who was crying over his dead body, was turned by the Gods in a swan, which is supposed to sing beautifully when he's about to die.

I couldn't find a fitting quote for him so no quote.
