Description

Feliciano as the representation of Venice...

Extra note:
For who's interested to know...

History:
Venice, in Italian 'Venezia' in Venetian 'Venexia' was the capital of the Repubblica di Venezia (Republic of Venice) for around 1000 years. It's most popular nick is "La Serenissima" (The Most Serene) but it has many others also.
The conventional date for its founding is identified with the dedication of the first church, that of San Giacometo (Little Jacopo) at the islot of Rialto in 421.
Venezia's name came from 'Venetiae', the name given by the Romans to call the land of the Veneti, the population that resided on the Veneto's territory before the Romans conqueered it.
Venice and its lagoon are included in the World Heritage Sites (1987).
The buildings of Venice are constructed on closely spaced petriified wood piles. During the 20th century Venice began to subside. This sinking process has slowed in the 1960s. However, the city is still threatened by more frequent low-level floods (called Acqua alta, 'high water') that creep to a height of several centimetres over its quays. Some recent studies have suggested that the city is no longer sinking but this is not yet certain; therefore, a state of alert has not been revoked.
Venice is world-famous for its canals. It is built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by 177 canals in a shallow lagoon. The islands on which the city is built are connected by 455 bridges.
The classical Venetian boat is the gondola, although it is now mostly used for tourists, or for weddings, funerals, or other ceremonies.
The Patron saint is San Marco Evangelista (Saint Mark the Evangelist).
San Marco's lion is also the symbol of the city of Venice and was the symbol of the Republic of Venice (that also took the name of San Marco's Republic).
When Napoleon came in Italy and moved war to the Republic of Venice he also ordered to destroy or turn upside down all the San Marco's lions.
San Marco's lion is represented as a winged lion with a halo (the lion represented the majesty and power of the Evangelist's words, the wings the spiritual elevation, the halo the santity and pity), often represented with a book (representing knowledge and peace) that could be open or close (when the book is open you can read on it "PAX TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEVS", 'Peace to you Mark, my Evangelist') and, sometimes, a sword (representing strenght and justice) that he could held high or.
It's popular assumption that if the lion has the book closed and is holding the sword it's symbolizing Venice while in war but this actually isn't true.
